New Rules to be Introduced to Reduce Truck Series Costs

According to the Charlotte Observer NASCAR will soon announce the following cost cutting measures:

- There will be a 12-member roster limit for each team.
- Only five crew members will be allowed over the wall for pit stops.
- Teams will be allowed to add gas or take tires on pit stops, but not both.
- Each team will be allowed only a certain number of engines each season. They would be sealed and used in more than one race.

Lets go thru this one at a time:

1. What's the average number teams have now, I haven't clue #1. I'm thinkin' all but the "Cup connected" teams are are very near this limit now because of budget limitations.

2. And so?! Most teams I suspect will use those people in some other race day capacity.

3. OK, what the frickin' hell happens when a team legitimately needs both? 2 consecutive stops on either green or yellow flag conditions? What brain child thought this one up?

4. This could be the only legit cost saver. That's assuming NASCAR doesn't get too wacky with the number of events an engine must run. If they go overboard and engines stop popping like cheap circus balloons the cost goes way up. It's cheaper to refresh an engine than it it to overhaul one that has had a crank go thru the bottom end and bounce down the track..

Totally, completely ridiculous. All of it. Why don't they just announce no more truck races?
Sheesh!

Sometimes you have to be careful of what you wish for.

I don't have a problem with any of it except the tires or gas only pit stops. It seems kind of dumb and unworkable as in Marc's scenario. Why not a tirew limit ala ARCA (ten tires per race)? That would be real cost savings.
